You might find it useful to look at the 1 bar smithing items and what components they give to maximize the number of components per bar. As an example maces and 2h swords both give base parts. Maces take 1 bar and give 8 components, while 2h swords take 3 bars and give 12 components, or 4 components per bar.
While it is faster to use up your bars for smithing xp making 2h swords, and with the scroll you will technically save some bars to make more swords, the maces give vastly more components. You can usually find some 1 bar recipe that gives 8 components for the common or uncommon thing you need from weapons, and for protective components I believe the best ratio is with helms at 6 components per bar.
Some components will also necessitate 2 bar recipes like for subtle components from scimitars, but you can at least save a bit on the others by spending a little more time smithing 1 bar at a time. The wiki has information on what each weapon/armor types to make for each component and also information on how many components each gives, so I would check that out.
Different bosses have specific equipment they drop in dungeoneering, so that is one way to get it. You can force a certain boss once a day after you have done some of the daemonheim tasks. Another method is from the forgotten warriors/mages/archers that can drop equipment except t99 stuff (t99 is from bosses only). You can usually count on getting a scrap of armor per kill, but sometimes you will be blessed with a weapon.
